when the may rain comes
14:16 & 29 July 2003

Afternoon and overcast, the sea seeming endless, stretching dark gray against the skies which promised rain.

Bundled up in the softest bit of tartan used on many a summer outing to the games and settled firmly in his lap, the weight of his cheek against my hair almost lulling me to sleep.

"They filmed a movie here once, years ago." I said suddenly.
"Really?" he murmured, "which one?"
He laughed when I said the title and I laughed a bit too, secretly I loved that movie.
"Wasn't it supposed to be more towards San Diego" he asked.
"Well, artistic license and all that, the jets were real enough."
We both grew quiet then and watched the waves break on the shore..each lost to our own thoughts.
As the rain began to fall, he gathered me closer, placed a gentle kiss upon my head and safe in each other's embrace, protected by the eaves of the house, we watched the storm.
"Sometimes," I said softly, "it makes me want to run along the shore, spinning and dancing, reveling in being alive."
"Then we shall, we'll spin and dance until we collapse from shouting with laughter and I'll kiss you wherever we fall." he said smiling.
"And you'll carry me home piggyback and once we're warm and dry we'll watch cartoons and eat cereal", I replied.

So we ran across to the beach, holding hands and dodging raindrops.

And it was glorious.
